MTN Cameroon's
newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Wanda Matandela, has officially
introduced himself to employees in an atmosphere brimming with enthusiasm and
camaraderie. Just three weeks into his tenure, the South African-born executive
charmed staff members during his first townhall meeting at La Falaise Hotel's
Diamond Hall in Douala on March 26, revealing his authentic personality and
vision for the telecom giant's Cameroonian operations.

The vibrant
event saw packed attendance both physically and virtually, with MTN employees
from across the nation tuning in to connect with their new leader. For nearly
four hours, the yellow-and-blue-clad MTNers listened attentively as Matandela
shared personal anecdotes about his South African upbringing, his distinguished
career journey, and his ambitious plans to elevate MTN Cameroon's market
position.
Beyond
corporate strategy, the CEO won hearts by demonstrating his rapid cultural
adaptation – already mastering the Cameroonian tradition of eating Achu (a
local delicacy) with his fingers while bowing his head. His appreciation for
Cameroon's legendary hospitality, vibrant music scene, and rich culinary
heritage resonated deeply with staff members, as did his self-description as a
devoted family man and football enthusiast.
