Ghana’s
Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey
George, is representing the government of Ghana at the ongoing ITU Regional
Development Forum for Africa (ITURDF-AFR) in Nairobi, Kenya. The high-level
forum, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in
collaboration with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), brings together
African ministers, regulators, and industry leaders to strategize on advancing
digital transformation across the continent. Minister Sam
Nartey George joined his counterparts from Kenya, Nigeria, Lesotho, Chad, and
other African nations in discussions aimed at fostering innovation, improving
digital infrastructure, and bridging the digital divide. The forum serves as a
critical platform for aligning Africa’s digital policies, enhancing regional
cooperation, and ensuring inclusive growth in the ICT sector.
Speaking at the
event, Minister George mentioned Ghana’s commitment to leveraging digital
technologies for economic development. “Africa must unite in its approach to
digital transformation, ensuring that our policies and investments create
opportunities for all citizens,” he stated. “Ghana is keen on
collaborating with other African nations to build a resilient digital ecosystem
that drives innovation and sustainable growth.”
The forum also
featured insights from key stakeholders, including ITU Secretary-General Doreen
Bogdan-Martin (represented by ITU officials), African Telecommunication Union
(ATU) Secretary-General John Omo, and Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for ICT,
William Kabogo. Discussions revolved around critical topics such as
cybersecurity, broadband accessibility, digital inclusion, and the role of
emerging technologies like AI and 5G in Africa’s development.
