The Ministry of
Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has launched an
investigation into a cybersecurity breach impacting approximately 5,700 MTN
Ghana customers. The Ministry is collaborating with the Cyber Security
Authority (CSA), the National Communications Authority (NCA), and the Data
Protection Commission (DPC) to assess the scope of the incident and implement
protective measures for affected users.
In an official
statement released today, the Ministry confirmed it is working to determine
whether the breach resulted from any lapses by the mobile network operator.
Authorities emphasized adherence to Data Protection Laws, assuring that
affected customers will be contacted directly as part of the response
protocol.
“We urge the
public to remain calm while we work with all relevant agencies to resolve this
issue transparently,” the Ministry stated. Regular
updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
This incident
highlights growing cybersecurity challenges in Ghana’s digital landscape and
underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizen data through
coordinated regulatory action. The CSA, NCA, and DPC continue to monitor the
situation, reinforcing the importance of robust cybersecurity frameworks for
telecom operators.
