The
Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) has hosted a
delegation from the German Space Agency at DLR during a courtesy visit aimed at
strengthening cooperation in space-based applications.
The
delegation held discussions with RCMRD’s Director General, focusing on
potential areas of collaboration, including Earth Observation, institutional
capacity building, and the broader application of space technologies. The
engagement reflected a shared interest in leveraging geospatial and
satellite-driven solutions to address development and environmental challenges.

Central
to the discussions was RCMRD’s strategic regional mandate and its growing role
in advancing space-based services across member States. Both parties
highlighted the importance of Earth Observation technologies in supporting
disaster risk management, environmental monitoring, and evidence-based
decision-making.
The
meeting also underscored the value of capacity development initiatives designed
to enhance technical expertise and strengthen institutional readiness in the
use of space-derived data and applications.

The
visit signals continued international interest in collaborative partnerships
that expand the adoption of space technologies to support resilience,
sustainable development, and regional integration efforts across Africa.
