The National Information
Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) has concluded a multi-stakeholder workshop
focused on the renewal of Uganda’s Government Enterprise Architecture (GEA) and
the E-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF), reinforcing efforts to
enhance coordination, efficiency, and service delivery across the public
sector.
The workshop, held in
collaboration with the e-Governance Academy, brought together representatives
from various public entities to deliberate on the strategic modernization of
Uganda’s digital governance structures. The engagement centered on aligning technology
systems, data management practices, and institutional processes to ensure
greater interoperability across ministries, departments, agencies, and local
governments.

Government Enterprise
Architecture serves as a foundational blueprint guiding how government digital
systems are designed, integrated, and managed. Officials emphasized that the
framework plays a critical role in preventing fragmentation and promoting seamless
collaboration between public sector platforms.
“The blueprint ensures
government systems are designed to collaborate together and not grow in
isolation,” said
Brenda Maniraguha, Project Manager for the Government Enterprise Architecture
and Government Interoperability Framework at NITA-U.
Participants noted that the
discussions come at a pivotal moment as governments increasingly prioritize
interoperable digital ecosystems to improve public service efficiency,
transparency, and accountability. The workshop placed particular emphasis on sectoral
alignment, harmonization of approaches, and the co-creation of solutions aimed
at strengthening institutional coordination.
Stakeholders highlighted
that the renewal of the GEA and e-GIF frameworks is expected to support more
resilient digital infrastructure, reduce duplication of systems, and enable
data-driven decision-making across government institutions.

NITA-U continues to play a
central role in Uganda’s digital transformation agenda, overseeing ICT policy
implementation, digital infrastructure development, and the standardization of
government technology frameworks. Observers view the renewed focus on enterprise
architecture and interoperability as critical to advancing citizen-centric
service delivery and optimizing public sector performance.
