President Salva Kiir
Mayardit has officially signed the Cyber Crime and Computer Misuse Act 2026
into law, marking a major milestone in South Sudan’s efforts to secure its
digital ecosystem. The legislation provides a comprehensive legal framework to
detect, prevent, and prosecute cybercrimes, reinforcing the country’s
commitment to a safe and transparent digital environment.

The Act follows a focused
legislative process that began in December 2024, when the National
Communication Authority (NCA), in collaboration with the Transitional National
Legislative Assembly and UNMISS, conducted technical workshops to equip
lawmakers with the knowledge required to address complex cyber threats
effectively.
With the new law in place,
South Sudan now has clear regulatory standards to safeguard its digital
infrastructure, promote financial inclusion, and protect citizens as the
country advances its digital transformation agenda.

NCA officials hailed the
enactment as a pivotal step toward strengthening cybersecurity, fostering trust
in digital services, and ensuring that the nation’s ICT sector develops on a
secure and sustainable foundation.
