The President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou N’Guesso, has granted an audience to Dr. Karl Olutokun Toriola, recently appointed Vice-President of Francophone Markets at MTN Group, in a meeting centered on strengthening the company’s presence and long-term impact in the country.

The high-level engagement provided an opportunity for Dr. Toriola to convey MTN Group’s renewed commitment to the Republic of Congo, which the company described as a strategically important market within its francophone portfolio. Discussions focused on investment priorities, digital transformation, and expanding participation in the telecommunications sector.

During the exchange, Dr. Toriola outlined MTN Group’s strategic direction for Francophone markets, emphasizing Congo’s position in the company’s regional growth outlook. He also presented an overview of MTN Congo’s investments and their contribution to the implementation of the National Development Plan 2022–2026, particularly in improving connectivity, modernizing telecommunications infrastructure, and supporting digital initiatives.

The meeting further explored prospects for deepening collaboration between MTN and the Congolese State. Key areas of discussion included accelerating the digitalization of the economy, expanding financial inclusion services, and enhancing private sector participation. Among the considerations raised was the potential opening of MTN Congo’s capital to national investors, aimed at strengthening local ownership and engagement in the sector’s development.

The audience reflects continued dialogue between the government and major telecommunications stakeholders as Congo advances its digital economy objectives. Both parties underscored the importance of sustained investment, regulatory alignment, and innovation in driving economic modernization and expanding access to digital services.

The engagement marks a significant step in consolidating relations between MTN Group and the Republic of Congo, with expectations of further initiatives designed to enhance national connectivity and support broader socio-economic development.
