A
delegation from the Pan African AI & Innovation Summit (PAAIS) and the
University of Ghana Digital Youth Village (DYV) has held a strategic meeting
with Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament and Minister for Communication,
Digital Technology and Innovations, to discuss initiatives aimed at
strengthening Ghana’s role in Africa’s artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The
engagement, which took place on Monday, February 16, 2026, focused on
preparations for the second Pan African AI & Innovation Summit scheduled
for September 22–23, 2026, as well as potential partnerships to accelerate the
application of AI technologies for national development.

During
the discussions, the Minister underscored the importance of youth empowerment
within Ghana’s digital transformation agenda. He emphasized the need to harness
local datasets in developing AI-driven solutions tailored to address domestic
challenges, noting that context-specific innovation would be critical to
achieving sustainable outcomes.
Samuel
Nartey George also reaffirmed his support for collaborative initiatives between
government, academia, and industry, highlighting the strategic value of
nurturing digital talent and innovation capabilities across the country. In his
capacity as Patron of the Digital Youth Village, he reiterated the government’s
commitment to fostering an enabling environment for technology-driven growth.

Representatives
of the delegation described the partnership between PAAIS and the Digital Youth
Village as a significant alignment of academic expertise and industry
engagement. They noted that the collaboration is designed to support the
development of practical, market-oriented AI solutions while contributing to
Ghana’s broader ambition of positioning itself as a leading centre for ethical
AI development on the continent.
The
meeting forms part of ongoing stakeholder engagements within Ghana’s digital
policy landscape, where attention is increasingly turning toward artificial
intelligence as a catalyst for economic modernization and technological
competitiveness.
