MTN
is set to participate in MWC Barcelona 2026, taking place from 2 to 5 March at
the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, as global industry leaders, policymakers,
investors, and technology stakeholders convene to shape the next phase of
connectivity and digital transformation.
Convened
by the GSMA, the 2026 edition marks the event’s 20th anniversary in Barcelona
and will be held under the theme “The IQ Era,” with discussions expected to
center on AI-powered connectivity, next-generation networks, and the
infrastructure underpinning scalable digital ecosystems.
For
the first time at the event, MTN will exhibit from its own stand in Hall 4,
providing a platform for engagement on issues critical to Africa’s digital and
artificial intelligence readiness. The company indicated that its presence will
focus on the foundational elements required to support AI adoption across
emerging markets, including resilient telecommunications infrastructure,
affordable access, skills development, and regulatory certainty.
MTN’s
participation reflects its broader strategy of sustained investment in network
expansion, alongside the growth of digital and financial services aimed at
enhancing inclusion and supporting economic development.
Leading
the delegation will be Ralph Mupita, President and CEO of MTN Group, who will
attend in his capacity as Deputy Chair of the GSMA. During the week, Mupita is
expected to contribute to high-level discussions examining the enabling role of
telecommunications networks in AI ecosystems, with particular emphasis on
infrastructure and governance frameworks necessary for responsible AI
deployment at scale.
Members
of MTN’s executive leadership team will also take part in specialized dialogues
addressing fintech innovation, digital trust, online safety, and partnership
models designed to accelerate coverage, strengthen resilience, and build
confidence in digital platforms.
MTN
has invited partners, investors, media, and other stakeholders attending MWC
Barcelona 2026 to engage with its team at Hall 4 to discuss collaboration
opportunities and Africa’s evolving digital landscape.
