The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has welcomed a delegation from the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), led by its National President, Professor Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, for a courtesy visit aimed at reinforcing collaboration on Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of the NDPC and Chair of the Anglophone Countries’ Committee of the Network of African Data Protection Authorities, expressed appreciation for NCS’s ongoing contributions to advocacy, capacity-building, and professional development within Nigeria’s IT sector. He noted that strategic partnerships between government agencies and professional bodies are critical to advancing data protection and privacy as foundational elements of trust in the country’s digital transformation.

During the visit, Dr. Olatunji highlighted the importance of inclusivity in strengthening the IT profession, encouraging NCS to broaden its membership to include professionals actively contributing to the sector, even if they do not have formal computer science qualifications. He also emphasized NDPC’s commitment to raising awareness, scaling knowledge, and fostering responsible data governance practices across industries.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to supporting NCS flagship programmes and participating in upcoming events, underscoring the shared vision of building a secure, innovation-driven digital economy in Nigeria.
