Gayane Faye, Coordinator of SENSAT has addressed nearly 2,000 young people at the Grande Rentrée Citoyenne held at the Grand Théâtre National de Dakar, urging Senegalese youth to embrace careers in science, technology and space-related professions.

The event, initiated by Amy Sarr Fall, founder of Intelligences Citoyennes, aims to promote excellence and citizenship among young people across Senegal. It brought together students from all regions of the country and was attended by the Minister of National Education, Moustapha Mamba Guirassy, along with other government officials and invited guests.

During his address, Faye shared his professional journey and outlined the progress of Senegal’s space initiative, which he has led with the SENSAT team since 2019. He emphasized that high-level technological projects are achievable within Senegal and encouraged students to pursue ambitious scientific goals.

Faye also highlighted the importance of increasing female participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, calling on high school and university students, particularly young women, to consider careers in engineering and research. He underscored the need for discipline and perseverance, noting that scientific excellence requires sustained effort and commitment.

One of the central themes of this year’s edition was restoring interest in scientific studies among pupils and students. Amy Sarr Fall said the initiative seeks to demonstrate that success in science is attainable and that young Senegalese can become leaders in fields often perceived as out of reach. She pointed to Faye’s own background, noting that the coordinator of the Senegalese space program comes from the village of Tchiky Serere in the Department of Gossas, as an example of how determination and belief can translate into national achievement.

The Grande Rentrée Citoyenne continues to serve as a platform for inspiring youth engagement in education, innovation and national development.
