The
Government of Angola has installed a VSAT antenna at the campus of Katyavala
Bwila University (UKB) in Catumbela, providing free internet access via the
ANGOSAT-2 satellite as part of efforts to expand digital inclusion in the
country.
The
initiative falls under the Conecta Angola Comercial Project, led by the
Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social
Communication (MINTTICS) through the National Space Program Management Office
(GGPEN), in partnership with sector operators and local technology startups in
Benguela province.

The
newly installed infrastructure enables connectivity at three strategic
locations on campus: the laboratory, the library and the academic courtyard.
The free satellite-based internet service is expected to directly benefit
students by supporting research, academic work and digital learning.
Authorities
said the integration of local startups into the project reflects the
Executive’s commitment to strengthening Angola’s national technology ecosystem.
The initiative is designed to promote knowledge transfer, provide technical
training and create opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the region.
The
project forms part of broader government efforts to massify internet access,
advance digital inclusion and underscore the strategic importance of space
infrastructure in the country’s socio-economic development.

In
December 2025, the Government of Angola officially launched the Conecta Angola
Comercial Project to expand connectivity, foster digital entrepreneurship and
deliver technology solutions to communities nationwide.
Officials
said the introduction of internet access via ANGOSAT-2 at UKB marks another
step in linking the space sector with higher education institutions, with the
aim of strengthening research, innovation and the training of skilled human
capital in Angola.
