The
GSMA has partnered with China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom, to announce
the launch of the Mobile AI Innovation Initiative, a new industry effort to
accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence with mobile networks and
infrastructure. The initiative builds on the GSMA’s Mobile AI Community,
established in 2025, and aims to advance AI-enabled connectivity, edge
intelligence, and cloud-network collaboration.
The
initiative is structured around three key pillars: building AI-native
intelligent networks, fostering device-edge-cloud ecosystem collaboration, and
supporting AI adoption across industries. Through these efforts, operators aim
to evolve mobile networks into adaptive systems capable of real-time
perception, optimization, and decision-making. Participating organizations will
also work to align technical specifications for AI-enabled devices, including
smartphones, wearables, connected vehicles, and robotics, while promoting
secure and trusted data exchange across networks.
Sihan
Bo Chen, Head of GSMA Greater China, emphasized the critical role of mobile
networks in supporting AI deployment, noting that ubiquitous, low-latency, and
programmable connectivity is essential for scalable, responsible AI
development.
The
initiative will also focus on industry applications of AI in sectors such as
manufacturing, healthcare, transport, and urban services. Operators, technology
providers, and industry partners will collaborate through a cross-industry
innovation platform to showcase practical Mobile AI use cases and develop new
AI-enabled services.
As
part of the initiative, MWC26 Shanghai, scheduled for June 24–26, 2026, will
serve as a global platform to advance Mobile AI Innovation. The event will
feature dedicated zones highlighting robotics, 5G-Advanced, early 6G research,
low-altitude economy, and satellite–mobile convergence, with over 30 strategic
partners including Alibaba Cloud, Intel, Asiainfo, AgiBot, APSAT, and 5GAA
contributing to the showcase.
The
Mobile AI Innovation Initiative represents a significant step in aligning AI
development with trusted connectivity, open collaboration, and real-world
applications, positioning mobile networks at the center of the next phase of
digital transformation.
