The
Acting Director General of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority
(MACRA), Mayamiko Nkoloma has engaged in high-level discussions with leadership
from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) during the Mobile World
Congress in Barcelona.
Nkoloma met with ITU Secretary-General Doreen
Bogdan-Martin and the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau,
Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, PhD, on the sidelines of the global connectivity
event.
The discussions focused on advancing connectivity and
strengthening collaboration to unlock greater socio-economic opportunities
through digital transformation. Nkoloma emphasized that the future of
connectivity extends beyond infrastructure deployment, underscoring the
importance of expanding access to underserved populations, building critical
digital skills and ensuring that connectivity translates into tangible economic
and social benefits.
The engagements highlighted the role
of international cooperation in supporting inclusive growth, expanding digital
infrastructure and creating sustainable pathways for development.
