MTN Cameroon, through its Corporate Foundation,
has supported more than 200 families affected by the floods that occurred in
Buea in the South-West Region, following a torrential rain a week ago.
MTN
Cameroon's gesture of solidarity gave rise to a ceremony at the esplanade of
the Buea Town stadium, an event chaired by the Sub-Prefect of the district of
Buea, Abba Abdouraman, in the presence of the representative of the Governor of
the South-West Region, Mrs. Mbong Vanessa, Paramount Chief Endeley V,
representatives of the families of the victims of the disaster and a strong
delegation of MTN employees led by Jacqueline Iyock, representative of the
Director General of MTN Cameroon.
Speaking during the event the Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs of MTN Cameroon, Marie-Germaine Ndzie said that MTN Cameroon
did not come to Buea empty-handed.
“To the victims, in
addition to our words of comfort, we provide them with essential equipment for
those who find themselves homeless, educational materials for students who have
lost their supplies and food,” she added.
According to officials, far from being an isolated action, this
initiative is part of a regular program of humanitarian assistance and support
for national causes of the MTN Foundation to help victims of accidents, natural
disasters, or epidemics. It is a duty of solidarity that has allowed MTN to be
at the bedside, victims of several tragedies that occurred in the country.
“As Africans, solidarity is deeply rooted
in our genes, it is part of our DNA. Our presence with the victims of Buea is, therefore, part of a long tradition, because it is since 2005, the MTN
Foundation works daily for the well-being of our communities in Cameroon. By
contributing to the improvement of their quality of life, we are working
together for the progress of the country, and of Africa. " said
Jacqueline Iyock, representative of the Director General of MTN Cameroon.
