MTN Uganda has announced plans to fund the construction of a new 36-bed specialized dormitory for 72 learners at Salama School for the Blind at Luga Village in Mukono district following a tragic fire incident on 25th October 2022, where 12 girls lost their lives in a dormitory fire at the school.

During her visit to the school, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, Sylvia Mulinge revealed that the new facility if completed will be equipped with fire safety equipment, furniture, washrooms, and caretaker living quarters.

The new 36-bed specialized dormitory is expected to be completed in the next three months.

She said MTN Uganda has also invested heavily in improving infrastructure across Uganda in schools, such as constructing classroom blocks and sanitary facilities, providing computer labs, and constructing staff quarters.
“The company is committed to ensuring that no child is left behind, especially in relation to access to education,” she stated.
