Uganda has announced plans to fund the construction of a new 36-bed specialized
dormitory for 72 learners at Salama School for the Blind at Luga Village in
Mukono district following a tragic fire incident on 25th October 2022, where 12
girls lost their lives in a dormitory fire at the school.
During
her visit to the school, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, Sylvia
Mulinge revealed that the new facility if completed will be equipped with fire
safety equipment, furniture, washrooms, and caretaker living quarters.
The new
36-bed specialized dormitory is expected to be completed in the next three
months.
She said
MTN Uganda has also invested heavily in improving infrastructure across Uganda
in schools, such as constructing classroom blocks and sanitary facilities,
providing computer labs, and constructing staff quarters.
“The company is committed to ensuring that no
child is left behind, especially in relation to access to education,” she
stated.
