The
Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has held discussions with the Team
Europe Initiative (TEI) on advancing digital inclusion and strengthening the
participation of women in the information and communications technology sector.
National
Commissioner of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent O. Olatunji, hosted the Programme
Director of TEI, Caroline Allibert-Delestras, during a strategic visit focused
on shared priorities in data protection and inclusive digital development.

The
meeting addressed key issues including promoting women’s participation in ICT,
enhancing digital inclusion, and ensuring safer online environments,
particularly for women. Both parties also discussed challenges faced by women
in the digital space and the need for coordinated interventions to address
them.
Allibert-Delestras
highlighted TEI’s ongoing programmes across member countries and outlined plans
to expand its initiatives in Africa and Asia, with a focus on supporting
inclusive digital ecosystems.
Dr.
Olatunji reaffirmed the NDPC’s commitment to closing the gender gap in the
technology sector, noting the significant contributions of women within the
Commission, including leadership roles in key departments.

The
discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration between the NDPC and
TEI to strengthen women’s representation in ICT and decision-making processes,
as part of broader efforts to build a secure and inclusive digital environment.
Officials
said the engagement reflects a growing focus on partnerships to address digital
inequality and promote responsible data governance in Nigeria and beyond.
