Egypt’s
Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindi, has
conducted an inspection tour of a Samsung manufacturing facility in Beni Suef
Governorate, as part of efforts to review ongoing investments and expansion in
the country’s electronics industry.
The
visit, which included Beni Suef Governor Abdullah Abdulaziz, focused on
assessing the factory’s latest production lines and the company’s plans to
scale up manufacturing capacity. The facility, operated by Samsung Electronics,
spans approximately 9,000 square meters and represents a total investment of
nearly $100 million, providing around 1,500 direct and indirect jobs.
Samsung
began operations at the site in 2022 with the production of educational
tablets, initially reaching an annual capacity of about 700,000 units. In 2025,
the company expanded its footprint with the launch of an additional facility
dedicated to manufacturing mobile phones and tablets, increasing overall
production capacity to up to 6 million units.

During
the tour, the minister received a briefing from Won Kim on the factory’s
production performance and market distribution. In 2025, the plant produced
approximately 2.2 million mobile phones and 600,000 tablets for the local
market, while also supporting exports to international markets. The facility
manufactures several of Samsung’s latest mobile device models, which are
released in Egypt alongside global launches.
Hindi
also reviewed the company’s production roadmap for 2026, which includes plans
to expand output of mobile phones and educational tablets to meet both domestic
demand and export requirements.
The
minister highlighted Samsung’s role as one of the early international partners
in Egypt’s strategy to develop its electronics sector and deepen local
manufacturing. He noted that the company’s continued expansion reflects
confidence in Egypt’s workforce and investment climate, as well as the
country’s ability to produce globally competitive technology products.
He
added that the project demonstrates effective collaboration between the
government and the private sector, combining international expertise with local
capabilities. The initiative is aligned with Egypt’s broader policy to
strengthen its manufacturing base, particularly in Upper Egypt, while creating
employment opportunities and enhancing economic competitiveness.

The
factory’s presence in Beni Suef also supports the government’s objective of
promoting industrial development outside major urban centres, contributing to
regional economic growth.
The
inspection was attended by senior officials, including the Chief Executive
Officer of the Information Technology Industry Development Authority, Ahmed
Al-Zaher, alongside representatives from Samsung Egypt and the Ministry of
Communications and Information Technology.
The
visit forms part of a broader tour by the minister across Beni Suef
Governorate, which includes the inauguration and inspection of
telecommunications, information technology, and postal infrastructure projects,
as well as engagements aimed at advancing Egypt’s digital transformation
agenda.
