Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo Gitau has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to advancing Africa’s digital transformation agenda through strategic partnerships, infrastructure investment, research collaboration and responsible technology governance.

Speaking during the opening of a high-level Africa-Europe digital cooperation meeting in Nairobi, Kabogo said Africa must strengthen its capacity to build trusted digital infrastructure, support research, develop technology talent, protect data and actively shape global technology governance frameworks.

The meeting, held alongside the Africa Forward Summit 2026, brought together delegates, development partners, innovators, policy leaders and researchers to discuss the future of artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and international technological cooperation.

Kabogo noted that Africa’s participation in global technological advancement is already underway, but stressed the need for stronger investments and collaboration to position the continent competitively within the global digital economy.

He said Kenya continues to expand national fibre connectivity, strengthen digital public infrastructure and improve access to online government services as part of efforts to position the country as a regional hub for data, cloud computing and innovation.

The Cabinet Secretary also commended Africa-Europe Foundation, Digital Africa and other partners for supporting cooperation initiatives around emerging technologies and digital development in collaboration with the Government of Kenya.

The engagement forms part of broader discussions between African and European stakeholders on strengthening partnerships around artificial intelligence, connectivity, digital inclusion and responsible technology governance.
