The
Director General of the Regional African Satellite Communication Organisation
(RASCOM), Timothy Adi Ashong, has held discussions with the Director of the
Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication
Union, Cosmas Zavazava, on strengthening collaboration to advance connectivity
and digital inclusion across Africa.
The
meeting focused on opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions
in areas including capacity building, bridging the urban-rural connectivity
gap, and supporting ongoing efforts to expand digital access across the
continent.
According
to Mr. Zavazava, the discussions also explored joint initiatives aimed at
supporting connectivity programmes and enhancing digital development efforts in
underserved communities across Africa.
The
engagement took place on the sidelines of the ITU Global Symposium for
Regulators (GSR), where regulators, policymakers, and digital stakeholders are
meeting to discuss the future of digital regulation and inclusive connectivity.
RASCOM
continues to play a strategic role in advancing satellite communications and
digital infrastructure development across Africa, while the ITU remains a key
global platform for international cooperation in information and communication
technologies.
