The
International Telecommunication Union has underscored the importance of
reliable ICT data in advancing universal and meaningful connectivity during the
first dedicated ICT statistics workshop organised by the ITU Development Sector
at the Global Symposium for Regulators 2026 (GSR-26).
According
to the Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), Cosmas
Luckyson Zavazava, the strong participation at the workshop reflected growing
recognition of the role trusted data plays in supporting informed
decision-making and evidence-based digital policy development.

The
workshop brought together regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders
to discuss strategies for strengthening national data ecosystems and improving
the collection and use of ICT statistics.
The
ITU Development Bureau said its partnership with the European Commission and
regulatory authorities continues to support countries in enhancing data-driven
policymaking frameworks aimed at accelerating digital inclusion and
connectivity goals.
The
event formed part of activities at Global Symposium for Regulators 2026, which
is bringing together global digital stakeholders to discuss emerging regulatory
priorities and the future of digital transformation.
