The General Manager of
Angola Space Program (GGPEN), Dr. Zolana Joao has announced a major milestone
in Angola’s space ambitions following the validation of the System Key Point
(SKP) milestone for the ANGEO-1 Earth observation programme in partnership with
Airbus Defence and Space.
The development marks
another significant step in strengthening Angola’s Earth observation
capabilities as the country continues efforts to build long-term national space
infrastructure and expertise.
According to Dr. Joao, the
milestone reflects months of technical discussions, infrastructure planning,
coordination efforts, training programmes and strategic decision-making aimed
at establishing sustainable national capability within the space sector.

He noted that Angola is
moving quickly to position itself within the global space economy and is
already implementing initiatives ahead of the satellite’s arrival. These
include the expansion of Earth observation ground infrastructure, the
development of space applications across various sectors, support for a growing
NewSpace startup ecosystem and the training of future space professionals.
Dr. Joao disclosed that the
first Earth observation ground infrastructure designed to support local
communities is expected to begin delivery in June.
He also acknowledged the
contribution of Airbus Defence and Space, the GGPEN team and programme partners
for their commitment and collaboration since the official programme kick-off on
March 16.
The ANGEO-1 programme forms
part of Angola’s broader strategy to strengthen technological sovereignty and
enhance the use of space-based solutions for national development and
socio-economic transformation.
