Zimbabwe has officially launched the locally assembled Avantis Parote 1030i laptop in a move aimed at strengthening domestic technology manufacturing and advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The launch event was held at the Hyatt Regency Harare and attended by government officials, technology stakeholders and industry representatives.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera described the launch as a significant milestone for Zimbabwe’s technology sector and a step toward strengthening the country’s position within the digital economy.

The laptop is being assembled locally through a partnership between Avantis Technologies and ZITCO, an associate of TelOne.

According to the Minister, the initiative reflects Zimbabwe’s growing focus on local innovation, technology development and digital sovereignty, while reducing dependence on imported technology products.

She noted that promoting local manufacturing is expected to support job creation, skills development and the retention of economic value within the country.

The Avantis Parote 1030i project also highlights increasing collaboration between government institutions, state enterprises and private sector technology firms in supporting industrialization and digital innovation.

Government officials stated that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to position Zimbabwe as a producer and innovator in the technology sector while supporting the country’s long-term digital development objectives.
