Eswatini
has moved closer to securing funding for its Digital Transformation Project
following ongoing engagements and negotiations between key government
ministries and the World Bank.
The
discussions involve the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology,
the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development,
focusing on accelerating the country’s digital modernization agenda.
The
proposed Eswatini Digital Transformation Project is designed to enhance public
service delivery through improved connectivity, strengthened digital
infrastructure, and the modernization of government systems. It aims to bring a
wide range of services closer to citizens through digital platforms, including
passport applications, business registration, vehicle licensing, health
services, education systems, and social services via the Government in Your
Hand (GIYH) platform.

The
initiative also prioritizes strengthening cybersecurity frameworks, expanding
digital skills development, and improving the efficiency and accessibility of
public service delivery.
A
key component of the project is addressing the digital divide by expanding
broadband connectivity across the country. This includes the rollout of fibre
optic networks, telecommunications towers, and emerging technologies to ensure
access to reliable and affordable digital services in rural communities,
schools, clinics, government service centres, and households.
Officials
say the initiative represents a significant step toward building a more
connected and digitally enabled public sector in Eswatini, with the potential
to improve efficiency, transparency, and citizen access to essential services.
