Telkom hands over ICT laboratory to Eastern Cape School to drive digital inclusion

Telkom
has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing digital inclusion in South Africa
following the handover of a new ICT laboratory at Thubalethu Secondary School
in the Eastern Cape.
The
initiative, led by Telkom Consumer and Small Business Chief Executive Officer
Lunga Siyo, forms part of broader efforts to expand access to digital tools and
improve learning environments for school learners.
The
ICT lab is expected to benefit more than 750 learners by providing access to
modern digital resources aimed at enhancing education, digital literacy, and
future skills development.
Speaking
during the handover, Siyo emphasized that digital inclusion must extend beyond
policy discussions and corporate forums to deliver tangible impact within
communities. He noted that access to technology is essential for education,
economic participation, and long-term opportunity creation.
The
initiative was launched in line with World Telecommunication and Information
Society Day, observed under the theme “Strengthening digital lifelines for a
resilient and connected world,” which highlights the importance of expanding
connectivity to underserved communities.
Siyo
further noted that while South Africa has significant talent and ambition,
equitable access to digital infrastructure and tools remains critical to
ensuring that young people can fully participate in the digital economy.
Telkom
stated that the project reflects its ongoing focus on supporting education and
bridging the digital divide through targeted community investments.
