Kenya reaffirms digital economy ambitions at GITEX Kenya opening ceremony

The Principal Secretary at the State Department for Science and Innovation, Prof Shaukat Abdulrazak has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its digital economy while representing Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry Lee Kinyanjui at the opening ceremony of GITEX Kenya held at Sarit Centre under the theme #AIEverythingKenya

Speaking on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, Prof Abdulrazak highlighted Kenya’s strong digital foundations, noting that the country’s economy has expanded through practical innovation including mobile money services, digital public platforms, fintech solutions and a growing startup ecosystem.

He stated that the ecosystem has further diversified into emerging sectors such as agritech, health technology and climate innovation, positioning Kenya as a leading hub for digital transformation in Africa.

The statement emphasized that under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, the government has implemented policies aimed at creating an enabling environment for investment through investor facilitation, Special Economic Zones, industrial parks and reforms to improve the ease of doing business.

It further noted that Kenya has expanded its digital public services while strengthening its position as a competitive destination for technology-enabled production and service industries.

Prof Abdulrazak also acknowledged the leadership of Trixie LohMirmand for expanding the GITEX platform globally and expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in Kenya as a host country.

He additionally commended Philip Thigo for his leadership in advancing Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.

The GITEX Kenya event brings together policymakers, innovators and technology leaders to explore opportunities in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and the future of Africa’s technology ecosystem.
