The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has held discussions with Namibia’s Permanent Representative to Geneva on strengthening collaboration in digital transformation, emergency telecommunications, and regional policy development.

The ITU’s Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), Cosmas Zavazava met with Ambassador Elvis Toolouta Shiweda, Namibia’s Permanent Representative to Geneva, to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation in advancing resilient and inclusive digital ecosystems.

The discussions focused on joint initiatives to support digital transformation across the Southern African Development Community (SADC), with particular emphasis on improving emergency telecommunications planning and strengthening early warning systems under the global “Early Warnings for All” initiative.

Participants also reviewed ways to reinforce policy and regulatory frameworks to support more inclusive digital development and improve regional preparedness for climate and disaster-related risks.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by the ITU and member states to expand collaboration on digital infrastructure, resilience building, and the use of technology to support sustainable development goals across the region.
