The Communications
Regulatory Authority of Namibia is participating in the International
Telecommunication Union Regional Development Forum for Africa 2026 and the 2nd
African Preparatory Meeting for the 2026 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference
currently underway in Victoria Falls.
The five-day forum, taking
place from May 25 to 29, 2026, has brought together governments, regulators,
industry leaders and development partners from across Africa to discuss the
continent’s digital priorities and strategies for advancing meaningful, affordable
and inclusive connectivity.
According to CRAN, its
participation in the event is aimed at ensuring that Namibia remains actively
involved in regional and global telecommunications discussions while
contributing to Africa’s broader digital transformation agenda.
The authority said the
engagements also provide an opportunity to strengthen partnerships in areas
including digital transformation, connectivity expansion, innovation and the
development of resilient communications systems across the continent.
Namibia’s participation at
the forum also coincided with recognition for the development and approval of
the country’s National Emergency Telecommunications Plan (NETP). The
recognition highlights Namibia’s efforts to improve emergency preparedness and
strengthen communications resilience during disasters and national emergencies.
The ITU Regional Development
Forum for Africa serves as a platform for African stakeholders to coordinate
regional priorities ahead of global telecommunications policy discussions and
international digital development initiatives.
