The Ministry of Finance has concluded a five-round capacity-building workshop in Adama aimed at strengthening Ethiopia’s public financial management systems through expanded digitalisation and institutional reform.

The programme trained 500 federal officials on key aspects of modern financial management, including the expansion of digital payment systems across government institutions, Treasury reforms, the Treasury Single Account (TSA), and the use of the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernise Ethiopia’s fiscal architecture and improve efficiency, transparency and accountability in public financial operations.

EthSwitch participated as a strategic technical partner, supporting the workshop through its role in developing a secure and unified national payment ecosystem to advance government digital transformation initiatives.

According to EthSwitch, the development of integrated digital payment infrastructure is central to strengthening interoperability across financial systems and enabling more efficient government service delivery.

The company’s Stakeholder Engagement Director, Ato Belayneh Getachew Filatie, highlighted EthSwitch’s contribution to building secure payment systems that support Ethiopia’s broader digital reform agenda. EthSwitch also provided logistical support to facilitate the successful delivery of the training programme.

The Better Than Cash Alliance also contributed technical insights during the workshop, sharing global best practices and frameworks to support Ethiopia’s transition toward digital payments and improved financial system efficiency.

Officials noted that the completion of the workshop represents a significant step toward enhancing fiscal transparency and operational efficiency, while bridging the gap between national digital infrastructure and day-to-day government financial operations.
