The African Centre for
Technology Studies has participated in the recent Global Research Council
Annual Meeting held in Bangkok, contributing to discussions focused on
strengthening global research collaboration and advancing science, technology
and innovation policy.
A key highlight of the
meeting was ACTS’ participation in the inaugural “GRC South Day” side event,
which brought together Science Granting Councils and partners from across the
Global South to discuss opportunities for South-South collaboration, peer learning,
science diplomacy and coordinated research action.
Representing ACTS, Tom Ogada
led discussions on the role of the Science Granting Councils Initiative in
supporting science, technology and innovation policy development among Science
Granting Councils in sub-Saharan Africa.
According to ACTS, the
meeting marked an important milestone for countries in the Global South by
creating a dedicated platform to address shared priorities including climate
change, food security, health and energy.
The organization also
engaged with several international partners during the meeting, including Julie
Delahanty, President of the International Development Research Centre.
The Global Research Council
Annual Meeting serves as a platform for research funding agencies and science
organizations worldwide to strengthen cooperation and shape policies that
support research and innovation development.
