The Technology Innovation
Agency participated in the Africa Day 2026 celebrations hosted at the
University of Johannesburg, highlighting technological advancements and
innovation in the water sector.
The event was organized in
collaboration with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation and the
African Union under the theme “AU Year of Water Celebration.”

The gathering brought
together stakeholders from across the water sector to commemorate Africa Day
while examining the impact of investments in education, skills development and
regional collaboration within the framework of the African Union’s Year of Water
initiative.
During the event, TIA
showcased a range of partnerships and innovations developed by beneficiaries
supported through various programmes focused on advancing water-related
technologies and sustainable solutions.
The technologies presented
included innovations supported through the UJ Technology Station, PEETS and the
Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP), which is implemented in
partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

According to TIA, the
showcased innovations demonstrated tangible outcomes in the development of
technologies aimed at addressing water challenges and supporting sustainable
resource management across the continent.
The agency noted that
continued investment in science, innovation and collaborative partnerships
remains critical to driving technological solutions capable of addressing
Africa’s water security and sustainable development priorities.
