Benin
has formally installed Dr Sèdami Medegan Fagla as Minister of Higher Education
and Scientific Research, with responsibility for Technical Training, during an
official handover ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters.
The
ceremony, conducted at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research
(MESRS), was attended by outgoing ministers, senior ministry officials, and
representatives of the incoming minister’s delegation, in a transition
described as orderly and consistent with republican procedures.

Dr
Sèdami Medegan Fagla officially assumed office following her nomination,
outlining a set of eight priority areas for her mandate. These include the
modernization of universities, expansion of distance learning systems,
development of new academic programmes particularly in artificial intelligence,
and strengthening of technical and vocational education.
Other
priorities highlighted include improving the quality and professional relevance
of academic programmes, promoting research aligned with societal needs,
enhancing student welfare, and reinforcing the role and visibility of Sèmè City
as an innovation and knowledge hub.

The
minister also emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific research
and aligning higher education outputs with national development objectives. She
called for collaboration among ministry officials and stakeholders to support
the implementation of reforms aimed at improving efficiency, innovation, and
global competitiveness within Benin’s tertiary education system.
The
transition marks a new phase for the ministry, with a focus on accelerating
reforms and consolidating ongoing initiatives in higher education, research,
and technical training to better position the sector in line with national
development priorities.
