Côte d’Ivoire has
intensified diplomatic engagements to deepen support for its candidacy to the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council during strategic bilateral
meetings held on the sidelines of the African Telecommunication Union (ATU)
Conference of Plenipotentiaries.
The Ivorian delegation, led
by Roger Félix Adom, Chairman of the Regulatory Council of the
Telecommunications/ICT Regulatory Authority of Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI), held
discussions with key African ICT stakeholders on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, as
part of efforts to promote the country’s bid ahead of the ITU Plenipotentiary
Conference scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, in November.
The delegation engaged with
Dhingimuzi Phuti, Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Information and Communication
Technology, and Hon. Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of the Uganda
Communications Commission, in the presence of Côte d’Ivoire’s Ambassador to Nigeria,
Kalilou Traoré, Tunisia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohsen Antit, and
representatives from the ATU Secretariat.
Discussions with ATU
Secretary-General John Omo focused on preparations for the final African
coordination meeting ahead of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26), which
is scheduled to be held in Abidjan in September.
The engagements form part of
Côte d’Ivoire’s broader efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, build
consensus among African ICT stakeholders and advance its role in shaping global
telecommunications policy.
During the conference
activities, the head of the Ivorian delegation also held a brief meeting with
Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun
Tijani, further reinforcing collaboration among African countries on digital
transformation and telecommunications development.
