Efforts to improve access,
discovery and reuse of Earth Observation (EO) knowledge are receiving renewed
attention as experts and stakeholders participate in the SA-GEO Knowledge Hub
implementation training at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research
(CSIR) International Convention Centre.
The training is focused on
equipping participants with practical skills to publish, manage and share Earth
Observation knowledge through the GEO Knowledge Hub, a cloud-based digital
library developed to preserve and promote the reuse of EO applications created
by the global Group on Earth Observations (GEO) community.
Led by GEO experts Felipe
Carlos and Kalamkas Yessimkhanova, the session is exploring approaches to
making Earth Observation resources more accessible while ensuring that issues
around data ownership, governance and national sovereignty are respected.
The initiative seeks to
strengthen collaboration among Earth Observation stakeholders by creating a
structured platform where knowledge, applications and research outputs can be
shared across sectors and regions.
Through the GEO Knowledge
Hub, users will be able to discover and access relevant Earth Observation
solutions designed to support decision-making in areas such as environmental
management, climate monitoring, agriculture, urban planning and disaster response.
The SA-GEO Knowledge Hub
implementation training forms part of broader efforts to enhance the management
and exchange of Earth Observation knowledge, ensuring that scientific
information remains accessible, relevant and useful for communities, governments
and researchers.
By combining digital
technology with international collaboration, the initiative aims to strengthen
the role of Earth Observation data in addressing development challenges and
supporting evidence-based decision-making globally.
