Namibia and Botswana have
strengthened their digital cooperation after signing a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing collaboration in Information and
Communication Technology (ICT).
Namibia’s Minister of
Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, and Botswana’s
Minister of Communications and Innovation, David Tshere, signed the agreement
in Kasane, Botswana, to establish a framework for cooperation in key areas
including digital transformation, cybersecurity, ICT infrastructure,
connectivity, innovation, skills development, and emerging technologies.
Implementation of the
agreement will involve collaboration between the two ministries, mobile network
operators, designated postal operators, and telecommunications regulators from
both countries.
The engagement also provided
an opportunity to review progress on decisions reached during the
Namibia-Botswana Bi-National Commission held in October 2025 in Windhoek.
The Namibian delegation
included the Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and
Communication Technology, alongside senior officials from the Communications
Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), Mobile Telecommunications Limited
(MTC), Telecom Namibia, and NamPost.
The agreement is expected to
strengthen cross-border cooperation and create new opportunities for both
countries to collaborate on building resilient digital ecosystems and expanding
access to technology-driven services.
