Kenya has achieved a milestone in space education after the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) hosted the country's first live Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact, allowing students to communicate directly with a European Space Agency astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

The event, held on 5 August 2026 at Shree Cutch Satsang Swaminarayan Academy, gave students a rare opportunity to engage with astronaut Sophie Adenot in real time through amateur radio communications.

During the session, students asked questions about life aboard the International Space Station, astronaut training and the future of space exploration. The interaction provided learners with firsthand insights into human spaceflight and careers in the space sector while encouraging interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The Kenya Space Agency said the event marked an important step in advancing space education and inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators by connecting Kenyan students with global space missions.

The successful ARISS contact underscores Kenya's growing commitment to promoting space science, technology and innovation through educational outreach and international collaboration.
