Ethiopia is fortifying the
digital diplomacy and cybersecurity capabilities of young professionals through
the second round of the Summer Diplomacy Camp organised by the Institute of
Foreign Affairs.
Silabat Manaye Dessalegn,
Director of Digital Diplomacy at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
delivered a training session on digital diplomacy and cybersecurity as part of
the month-long programme.
The Summer Diplomacy Camp is
designed to equip young Ethiopians with practical knowledge and insights into
diplomacy while preparing a new generation to contribute to the country’s
national interests and international engagement.
Dessalegn said the programme
provides participants with an opportunity to gain practical diplomatic
knowledge and develop skills that can support their future roles in
representing Ethiopia.
As governments increasingly
use digital platforms to engage international audiences, communicate policy
positions and manage emerging cyber risks, expertise in digital diplomacy has
become an important component of modern diplomatic practice.
The programme also seeks to
broaden participants’ understanding of their potential role as representatives
and ambassadors of Ethiopia across different professional fields.
Dessalegn described the
initiative as a promising platform for developing young leaders capable of
contributing to Ethiopia’s diplomatic priorities in an increasingly digital
global environment.
