Safaricom Ethiopia
Foundation and the Federation of Ethiopian Associations of Persons with
Disabilities (FEAPD) have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
aimed at strengthening disability inclusion and expanding opportunities for
persons with disabilities across Ethiopia.
The agreement was signed at
Safaricom Ethiopia’s headquarters by Bethlehem Tameru, Executive Head of
Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation, and Abayneh Gujo, Executive Director of FEAPD,
in the presence of Safaricom Ethiopia Chief External Affairs Officer Andualem
Admassie.
The MoU provides an umbrella
framework for cooperation in areas of shared interest, with a focus on
identifying opportunities and addressing barriers that limit the full
participation of persons with disabilities in society.
Under the agreement, the two
organisations will prioritise digital inclusion, accessible technology,
inclusive education, economic empowerment, healthcare, and advocacy for
disability rights and inclusion.
The partnership will draw on
the expertise, resources and networks of both organisations to support the
development of a more inclusive, accessible and equitable society.
The collaboration is
expected to improve access to technology and digital services for persons with
disabilities while creating greater opportunities in education, healthcare and
economic participation.
Joining the signing ceremony
virtually, Karen S., Vodacom Group Accessibility Lead, welcomed the agreement
and highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships that advance
accessibility and inclusion for all.
Safaricom Ethiopia
Foundation and FEAPD said the three-year partnership represents a significant
step towards addressing systemic barriers and ensuring that persons with
disabilities can participate more fully in Ethiopia’s social and economic
development.
