RASCOM and Intersputnik have
commenced a three-day virtual SatCom Basics for Africa webinar aimed at
strengthening participants’ understanding of satellite communications, ground
systems and spectrum management.
The webinar began today,
Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 12:00 GMT and will continue through Friday,
September 4. The sessions are being delivered in English with parallel and
simultaneous French interpretation.
The opening session, running
from 12:00 to 16:00 GMT today, is focused on “Satellite Systems, Orbits and
Frequency Bands,” introducing participants to fundamental concepts related to
satellite systems, orbital mechanics and frequency allocation.
The second session on
Thursday, September 3, will address “Ground Segment, Link Budgets and Network
Architectures” from 12:00 to 17:00 GMT.
The final session on Friday,
September 4, will focus on “Spectrum Management, Filing and Interference” from
12:00 to 16:00 GMT.
Each session includes
scheduled 10-minute breaks. Participants have been advised to remain logged in
during the breaks, as videos will be shown before the sessions resume.
The three-day programme is
providing participants with practical knowledge covering satellite systems,
orbits, frequency bands, ground segments, link budgets, network architecture,
spectrum management, regulatory filings and interference.
The joint
RASCOM-Intersputnik initiative is aimed at strengthening technical capacity and
improving understanding of satellite communications among participants across
Africa, supporting the development and effective use of satellite technologies
on the continent.
