South Sudan has taken steps
to strengthen its national data governance capabilities following a three-day
Data Governance Capacity Building and Engagement Workshop aimed at supporting
the domestication of the African Union (AU) Data Policy Framework.
The National Communication
Authority (NCA) participated in the workshop, which was hosted by the African
Union Commission (AUC), AUDA-NEPAD, GIZ and KICTANet in partnership with the
Ministry of ICT and Postal Services of the Republic of South Sudan.
The strategic gathering
brought together key national stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of
data governance, strengthen practical skills and establish a clear roadmap for
implementing the AU Data Policy Framework across key national pillars.
During the workshop,
technical experts from the NCA presented an overview of South Sudan’s current
data governance landscape, outlining progress made, existing challenges and
national priorities for capacity building.
The discussions focused on
strengthening the country’s ability to manage data effectively as digital
services and transactions become increasingly important to the economy and
society.
The NCA said improved data
governance is critical to protecting citizens’ personal information, securing
digital transactions and ensuring that digital services remain trustworthy as
South Sudan advances its digital transformation.
The workshop forms part of
broader efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and establish effective
data governance systems that can support South Sudan’s growing digital economy.
