China has proposed the
establishment of an open-source artificial intelligence (AI) community among
BRICS member states as part of a broader plan to strengthen cooperation in AI,
digital infrastructure, skills development and technology exchange.
Chinese President Xi Jinping
presented the proposal at the BRICS summit in New Delhi, outlining plans for
closer collaboration among member states in the development and use of
artificial intelligence technologies.
Under the proposal, BRICS
countries would jointly develop and implement large language models, facilitate
knowledge transfer and promote the exchange of AI technologies and expertise.
China has expressed its
readiness to take a leading role in the proposed joint AI cooperation platform,
with the initiative intended to strengthen AI research, human-resource capacity
and technological cooperation among participating countries.
The proposal also includes
the development of a cloud platform to strengthen the BRICS digital ecosystem.
The platform would support broader digital cooperation among member states and
complement initiatives aimed at expanding access to digital technologies.
China has further proposed
digital skills training, cooperation in the development of smart factories and
partnerships focused on training professionals as part of the broader digital
cooperation agenda.
The discussions at the
summit also highlighted the importance of strengthening industrial and supply
chains among BRICS countries and developing an integrated market to support
economic and technological cooperation.
The proposed open-source AI
community is expected to provide a framework through which BRICS members can
share knowledge, develop AI capabilities and expand technological cooperation
while building capacity to participate more actively in the emerging AI
economy.
