The European Conference of
Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) has adopted 34 European
Common Proposals (ECPs) as part of Europe’s preparations for the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26), scheduled to
take place in Doha in November.
The proposals were finalised
during the latest and final in-person Com-ITU meeting held in Bonn, Germany,
ahead of the conference.
The adopted proposals cover
a range of issues expected to feature prominently at PP-26, including child
online protection, artificial intelligence, the digital divide, climate change
and accessibility.
During the meeting, Markus
Richter, State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Digital
Transformation and Government Modernisation, welcomed Com-ITU participants to
Bonn and highlighted the importance of Europe’s role within the ITU and
international cooperation ahead of PP-26.
ITU Secretary-General Doreen
Bogdan-Martin also addressed the meeting and thanked CEPT for its contribution
to the preparations. Looking ahead to PP-26, she stressed the importance of an
ITU that remains focused, trusted and equipped to address the technologies and
infrastructure shaping the next decade.
The meeting also brought
together participants from the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission
(CITEL) and the Latin American and Caribbean region, reinforcing cooperation
between regional telecommunications organisations.
