GéoSénégal and the French
Association for Geographic Information (AFIGÉO) have strengthened cooperation
on geospatial information following the signing of a partnership agreement
between Senegal’s Interinstitutional Group for Consultation and Coordination in
Geomatics (GICC) and AFIGÉO during GeoDataDays 2026 in Tours, France.
The agreement marks a new
stage in cooperation between Senegal and France in the field of geomatics, with
a focus on sharing expertise, strengthening links between geospatial ecosystems
and promoting collaboration among public institutions, businesses and
innovation communities.
The GICC serves as the
national framework for consultation and steering of Senegal’s National
Geomatics Plan, while AFIGÉO brings together and supports the French geographic
information ecosystem.
The partnership is expected
to support the wider use of geospatial data as a tool for knowledge, innovation
and regional development.
For Senegal, the agreement
contributes to GéoSénégal’s ambition to structure and promote the country’s
national geospatial ecosystem while strengthening its engagement with
international markets.
The cooperation will also
create opportunities for closer interaction between public-sector institutions,
private companies and innovation communities in both countries, with expertise
sharing forming a key component of the partnership.
GéoSénégal described the
agreement as the beginning of further projects and opportunities, with the next
GICC Business Meetings with the AFIGÉO community scheduled to take place in
Senegal in 2027.
