The National Space Program
Management Office (GGPEN) and ANYCONNECT have partnered to strengthen the
connectivity of Conecta Angola by linking the project to the international
submarine cable 2Africa, with the support of UNITEL.
The initiative is expected
to increase the capacity to carry Internet traffic generated by Conecta Angola
as demand for its services grows among communities, startups and entrepreneurs
benefiting from the project.
The integration of 2Africa
with the HUB supporting Conecta Angola's services creates a complementary
connection between space and submarine infrastructure. Traffic from VSAT
terminals installed in different locations in the country is transported
through ANGOSAT-2 to the HUB and then routed to national and international
Internet networks.
Through ANGOSAT-2, Conecta
Angola can provide coverage and bring Internet connectivity to localities,
including areas where traditional networks do not reach. The connection to
2Africa is designed to strengthen the capacity to carry traffic to content, platforms
and services available on international networks.
With approximately 45
thousand kilometers in length, presence in more than 30 countries and a design
capacity of up to 180 terabits per second in its main segments, 2Africa is one
of the largest submarine telecommunications infrastructures in the world, connecting
Africa to other regions.
For Conecta Angola users,
the expanded connectivity is expected to provide greater Internet capacity,
scalability, stability and availability as demand grows. Diversifying
international routes also contributes to increasing network resilience and
reducing risks associated with failures or congestion in other infrastructure.
In Angola, the connection
benefits from UNITEL's infrastructure, including the 2Africa mooring station in
Cacuaco, Luanda, reinforcing the country's integration into major international
telecommunications networks.
The partnership brings
together satellite, terrestrial and submarine infrastructure through
cooperation between GGPEN, ANYCONNECT, UNITEL and other partners, with the aim
of providing a more robust connectivity service.
The expanded capacity is
also expected to create better conditions for the growth of Conecta Angola, the
expansion of startups and digital services, and broader access to opportunities
provided by the digital economy.
ANGOSAT-2 brings communities
closer together. 2Africa strengthens the connection to the world. Conecta
Angola unites the two to connect more Angola.
