M-PESA Ethiopia has
concluded a three-day hackathon bootcamp aimed at developing digital payment
solutions, bringing together more than 100 young developers for hands-on
training in its Developer Portal application programming interfaces (APIs).
The CODE! CASHLESS
COMMUNITIES Hackathon Bootcamp was organised by M-PESA Ethiopia in
collaboration with Yenetta Code, featuring workshops, live coding sessions and
real-world API integration challenges.
According to M-PESA
Ethiopia, the participants used the three-day programme to sharpen their
technical skills and explore how the company’s developer tools could support
the creation of new digital payment solutions.
The company said the level
of talent, creativity and potential displayed during the bootcamp demonstrated
the capabilities of young developers as Ethiopia’s fintech sector continues to
develop.
The bootcamp precedes the
main hackathon scheduled for mid-October, where submitted project ideas will be
evaluated to select 20 teams for the semifinals.
The top five finalist teams
will then advance to the main stage to compete for the grand prize of 200,000
Ethiopian birr (ETB) for first place, with cash prizes also available for the
second- and third-place teams.
M-PESA Ethiopia said the
initiative forms part of its efforts to encourage young developers to build
digital payment solutions using its developer platform.
