Yolanda Cuba, Deputy CEO of MTN South Africa, has emphasised that businesses must strengthen execution, rethink existing processes and prepare their people for change to realise the value of artificial intelligence (AI).

In a post following her visit to the MTN South Africa AI Expo, Cuba said she had engaged with technology partners and explored the possibilities AI presents for the business.

“The technology is impressive. The possibilities are enormous,” she said, while raising a broader question about whether businesses are ready to extract the value that AI promises.

Cuba said technology alone does not transform a business, highlighting the need for clarity about the problems organisations are trying to solve, the courage to rethink existing processes, the discipline to execute and people who are willing to change how they work.

She said the opportunity extends beyond automating existing activities to fundamentally rethinking how businesses serve customers, make decisions and create value.

“AI is an enabler. Transformation is a leadership choice,” Cuba said.
