Senegal aims to restructure its postal sector by 2027 to make it a driver of national economic growth, with the government seeking to position La Poste as a modern, efficient and economically viable institution through digital transformation, trusted digital services and stronger private-sector partnerships.

Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Affairs Samba Diouf announced the priorities during the celebration of World Post Day, held under the theme “One postal network, infinite possibilities”.

The event laid the groundwork for a new approach to the postal sector under the New Deal Technologique, establishing it as a lever for sovereignty, inclusion and innovation. The objective is to make the postal network a strategic local infrastructure that brings services closer to the population and supports e-commerce.

Mr. Diouf stressed that La Poste must fully integrate digital transformation into its strategy. He also reaffirmed the special responsibility of the State, as the sole shareholder of the Société Nationale La Poste, in creating the conditions necessary for the institution’s revival and sustainability.

The day’s discussions were organised around two panels. The first examined ways to make the postal network a local infrastructure for inclusion, particularly through the deployment of trusted digital services. The second explored opportunities to translate the sector’s potential into practical outcomes through public-private partnerships, e-commerce logistics, and the involvement of startups and fintech companies.

The government’s plans also seek to benefit the wider local ecosystem, including private operators and delivery professionals, while creating new employment opportunities for young people.

La Poste plays a social and territorial role by guaranteeing access to services throughout Senegal. The government aims to build on this role as it works to make the postal sector more sustainable and strengthen its contribution to the national economy.
