Kenyan President William
Ruto has led a live National Digital Class Experience at Kiminini Junior
Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County, demonstrating how digital technology
can connect learners across the country and promote collaborative learning.
The initiative, held on
October 14, 2026, is being rolled out under the Kenya Digital Economy
Acceleration Project (KDEAP), with financing from the World Bank through the
International Development Association (IDA), as part of the government’s
Digital Skills and Markets programme.
The National Digital Class
Experience aims to facilitate real-time digital connectivity among schools,
enabling learners and teachers to interact, exchange knowledge and share
educational experiences regardless of their geographical locations.
During the demonstration,
live connections linked several schools simultaneously, showcasing how digital
innovation can bridge geographical barriers and create more engaging
educational experiences.
The Cabinet Secretary for
Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, joined the
session from St. George’s Junior Secondary School in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Cabinet Secretary for Gender Hannah Cheptumo and Musa Sirma took part from
Kabimoi Junior Secondary School in Baringo County, while ICT Authority Board
Chairperson Lily Ngok joined learners at Kericho Township Junior Secondary
School.
The initiative forms part of
Kenya’s efforts to modernise education through digital technology and expand
opportunities for interactive learning nationwide.
