Algeria has reached a preliminary partnership agreement with Roblox to establish a training programme to equip Algerian developers to design and develop video games, creating opportunities for them to enter the international market as freelancers and entrepreneurs.

The announcement was made by Sid Ali Zerrouki, who said the first phase of the agreement would focus on equipping young developers with the skills needed to participate in the global video game industry, valued at approximately $323 billion worldwide.

Zerrouki said the partnership also included safeguards to protect children and respect Algeria’s values. These measures include expanded parental controls to manage screen time, spending and content, as well as fast-track channels for handling reports.

The chat feature will remain disabled in Algeria until sufficient safeguards are in place, he said.

Zerrouki described the agreement as “a carefully considered openness to one of the global platforms” that protects children while creating opportunities for young people in the video game industry.
