MTN Uganda has been named the South and East Africa (SEAGHA) Regional Winner at the 2026 Y’ello Care Awards, recognising the team’s contribution to MTN Group’s employee volunteerism programme focused on community development and equitable access to healthcare.

The award was announced during MTN Group’s Ambassadors’ Appreciation Dinner, which was attended by South Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Hon. Solly Malatsi, alongside ambassadors, high commissioners and representatives of development institutions and international organisations from across MTN’s markets.

The 2026 Y’ello Care Awards celebrated the work of MTN employees who dedicated their time, skills and energy to serving communities under the theme “Expanding Equitable Health for Every Community”.

According to MTN, more than 6,000 employees contributed over 50,000 volunteer hours to healthcare initiatives that reached more than 400,000 people this year.

For 19 years, the company’s employee volunteerism programme has brought MTN employees together to support the communities in which the group operates.

MTN Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Nompilo Morafo said expanding access to healthcare was essential to broader social and economic development.

“Expanding access to healthcare is not only a health imperative; it is essential to education, skills development, inclusion and sustainable growth. I am deeply grateful to every MTNer who gave their time and skills, and to the health workers, governments and communities who made this work possible,” she said.

MTN Uganda received the regional award alongside other recognised teams, with MTN Eswatini emerging as the overall winner, MTN Benin taking the Francophone Africa Regional Award, and Bayobab winning the Platform Business Award.
